Movie Review: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Bilbo may not have been expecting this journey, but the rest of us have been. If you’re like me you have been rocking back and fourth in your chair waiting impatiently to hear those two little words… “my precious”. Ok so it’s a little creepy, but we all waited and in December 2012 director Peter Jackson gave us The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Yet again we have the pleasure of watching a star studded cast with the likes of Martin Freeman as a young Bilbo Baggins, Richard Armitage as Thorin, Ken Scott as Balin. Returning roles starred Hugo Weaving as Elrond, Cate Blacnchett as the lovely Galadriel, Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Christopher Lee as Saruman, Andy Serkis is bringing precious back (hidin joke… can you find it?) as Gollum, Elijah Woods as Frodo and the great Ian Holm as the elder Bilbo Baggins.

Grab your walking stick because for a 169 minutes you’re going to tag along with Bilbo on this
fantasy/adventure. Don’t worry, just when you start to get tired of walking or running for your lives, you’ll get to camp for the night. While around the campfire you’ll get a chance to know the other characters in your party better through songs and back stories. If that’s not your cup of tea then don’t worry because orcs are always right behind you waiting for the chance to strike. Maybe even right now as you are reading this… it was pretty surreal.

So with orcs, dragons, dwarfs, magic, elfs, and arrows to dodge, this film does have some frightening images and violence, yet they kept the rating down to a PG 13.

After watching this adventure I was inspired to try a little magic of my own. So for my first try I shall cast the spell of 5 stars. Which, if successful, will encourage others to watch this film.

Highly Recommended for anyone who loves Fantasy
A must for all Tolkien fans
A certainty for all Peter Jackson fans

Despite the expert morons in Rotten Tomatoes giving it a mere 60%, viewer reviews gave it an 88% which is what I would give as well.

Didn't know you had a blog Michael. Cool…and I just revealed my real name haha

Thanks for stopping by and taken a look, hope you liked what you saw. I don't know why Rotten Tomatoes couldn't have given it a higher rating.
