Movie Review: Iron Man 3

How many challenges can you overcome before you break? In May 2013, Tony Stark showed us, being a superhero doesn’t always make you superhuman.

Directing this 130 minute action/adventure/sci-fi is Shane Black.

Iron Man 3 has some carryover cast and some new faces, so role call goes like this: Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Pots, Don Cheadle as Colonel James Rhodes, Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Paul Bettany as the voice of Jarvis, Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin, James Badge Dale as Savin, Ty Simpkins as Harley Keener and William Sadler as President Ellis.

This time out Iron Man is pitted against a new evil, The Mandarin.Coming off the huge alien attack, (from the Avengers movie) Stark is trying to find a little balance in life. This time the threat comes from his past,
jeopardizing everything and everyone in the present. Not backing down, Stark yet again suits up and prepares to fight a battle that not only challenges his courage but also his strength of heart.

Here we go for the third installment to the super popular superhero Iron Man. First things first, Jon Favreau didn’t direct this one, and I feel his eye behind the camera made a huge difference. Shane Black is good, don’t get me wrong, but Favreau had a great handle on the first two and you can see the difference in the playthrough. Was this still a good addition to the series… yeah. Amazing special effects, good camera work and a pretty good script. Now, the only reason I say pretty good is because it depends on which side of the audience coin you fall on. A non-comic fan, the script was good. A full fledged comic book carrying fan, well there were… some changes made that could be upsetting, so pretty good. This one runs a little deeper on the emotional scale for the Stark character, bringing to light that no matter how much of a superhero you are, your work takes it’s toll on you. Because under the costume (almost) every superhero is still human.

This film is rated PG 13 for violence.

3 stars, from a full fledged comic book carrying fan. fan.
