Do you remember the kids game Battleship? In May 2012, a “loosely inspired” movie was released… yeah you read that right.
Directing this 131 minute action/adventure/sci-fi is Peter Berg.
Some of the cast blowing up the screen is: Taylor Kitsch as Alex Hoper, Alexander Skarsgard as Stone Hoper, Rihanna as Cora “Weps” Raikes, Tadanobu Asano as Yugi Nagata, Gregory D. Gadsen as Mick Canales, John Tui as Walter “The Beast” Lynch, Liam Neeson as Admiral Shane, Brooklyn Decker as Sam and Hamish Linklater as Cal Zapata.
Alex has a little trouble getting his life together. So with one more mishap his brother Stone calls for a change, it’s time to join the Navy. Now that he’s shaped up and shipped out, Alex’s next course should be smooth
sailing. Until an alien invasion looks to take over the planet. The Navy better hurry B4 the aliens sink their battleship…
Yeah so, humans, aliens and ships that got sunk on both sides… not really heavy in the storyline or script, because they pumped all that focus into the light show of special effects. Don’t get me wrong, I have the attention span of a child (sad I know) if it’s not constantly moving or shiny I’m bored. Yet, (thanks to this movie) I found 131 minutes of moving and shiny explosions got boring even for me. How Liam Neeson got on board with this? One can only assume it was by favor or debt, or maybe the chance to wear the uniform. Who knows. Either way this was a crappy movie with a lot of pretty lights. If you’re a fan of crappy acting, bad dramatic moments and lots of explosions, then here you go.
It’s rated PG 13 for violence and language.
This flick only gets 1 star, as it goes up in a blaze with no glory.
