Movie Review: R.I.P.D.

Have you ever wondered what happens after
you die? In July 2013, Nick unfortunately found out, and it wasn’t what he expected.

Directing this 96 minute action/comedy/crime/fantasy is Robert Schwentke.

Some of the names packing the cast list is: Jeff Bridges as Roy, Ryan Reynolds as Nick, Kevin Bacon as Hayes, Mary-Louise Parker as Procter, Stephanie Szostak as Julia, James Hong as Nick’s Avatar and Marisa Miller as Roy’s Avatar.

During a shootout, a police officer named Nick is killed. When he wakes up he’s in the R.I.P.D. (Rest In Peace Department), an agency of cops that patrol the afterlife. When the dead refuse to cross-over they come back as monsters, and the R.I.P.D. shows up to bust em. Nick and his partner Roy, an ex-U.S. Marshal from the 1800’s, have stumbled on to a case. For some reason the undead or Deados,
are gathering pieces of gold, gold that looks familiar to Nick. Now, the duo have to crack the case and figure out what the deados are up to, before all hell breaks loose.

First off, Jeff Bridges, awesome actor. Which, since he was in this movie that statement is justifiable. Anyways, R.I.P.D. looks cool, special effects and all. I liked the story, but oddly for a hour and a half movie it felt short. Big pieces were spent in drawn out areas that could’ve been spent in better places. The main bad guy is given up to the audience too soon, so after that it’s just one long catch me if you can playthrough. Still it was a good movie, worth a couple of bucks to go see. Entertaining enough to have on in the background when doing other things.

It’s rated PG 13 for violence.

3 stars for two cops protecting the afterlife.
