Movie Review: Smiley

How could something called Smiley be a bad thing? In October 2012, we found out, just cause your smiling doesn’t always mean you’re happy.
Directing this 90 minute horror is Michael J. Gallagher.
The cast of stars is: Caitlin Gerard as Ashley, Melanie Paplia as Proxy, Shane Dawson as Binder, Andrew James Allen as Zane and Michael Traynor as Smiley. With a special treat for some if you’re a fan (I am) Keith David as Diamond.
Roommates Ashley and Proxy decide to give a try to an internet urban legend they heard about. While chatting with someone, if you type “I did it for the lulz” three times, Smiley, a serial killer with a huge smiley carved on his face, comes to claim his victim. Low and behold the two women find out
it’s true. Afterwords, everywhere Ashley goes she swears she sees him, Smiley is loose from the net, but how? If he is loose, then what does he want? Or is this really all in her head?
Now, I really enjoy urban legend themes, this one not so much. The legend is cool, the story uses today’s technology against you (always cool) and Smiley is so creepy. The play-through just fell short in my opinion. More thriller/who done it than horror-oh-god-please-don’t-kill-me. After it was over I can honestly say, I didn’t watch this for the lulz. The make-up work was great, again Smiley was creepy looking. Always try to end with something positive mom used to say…
It’s rated R for violence, language, and drug use.
I’ll give it 2 stars as long as I don’t ever have to watch it again… please?
