47 Ronin (2013)

If you live a life bound by honor, what happens when your loyalty challenges your honor? In December 2013, we watched a group of men fight with honor, because of their loyalty.

Directing this 118 minute action/adventure/fantasy is Carl Rinsch.

Making their way through this fantasy is: Keanu Reeves as Kai, Hiroyuki Sanada as Oishi, Ko Shibasaki as Mika, Min Tanaka as Lord Asano, Rinko Kikuchi as Witch, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Kira, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Shogun Tsunayoshi, Neil Fingleton as Lovecraftian Samurai and Ron Bottitta as Narrator. With an appearance by Rick Genest as Savage.

During a visit from Shogun Tokugawa and Lord Kira, things start to fall apart for Lord Asano. Events continue to spiral out of control, leading to the death of Lord Asano, and branding samurai leader Oishi and his men Ronin (a samurai without a master). Oishi knows all of this is Lord Kira’s doing, but the Shogun has forbid any vengeance. Lord Kira kicks out all of the Ronin and plans to claim Lord Asano’s land as his own by marrying Mika. Scattered and lost, the Ronin don’t know what to do, but Oishi has a plan.

Ever since I saw the first trailer I was stoked to see this movie. I waited for the release of the film, it finally hit and… I wasn’t disappointed.

It’s a fictional story about a real group of samurai that avenged their master’s death back in the 18th-century. So, the storyline is simple, revenge, but the playthrough is really good.

Between the clean looking special effects and the cinematography, it makes for a highly entertaining movie.

The cast did good job, Reeves still runs a little tight and cold with his acting but if you’re a Reeves fan, he did great. Kai’s back story is a little odd, and not completely fitting the rest of the film, but they did a good job tying it together with the main storyline.

Now, yes this has lots of sword play and fighting, but don’t expect to see the blood flow, they kept it very clean. I have to say, I didn’t mind the lack of blood flowing.

Summary : It was a cool film that didn't need a bunch of blood to make it cool.

It's rated PG-13 for violence.
