Who’s seen the movie Happy Death Day (2017)? Well, if you haven’t, Happy Death Day was a movie that was written and directed by Christopher Landon. It was about a young woman that kept reliving her death… and it happened to be on her birthday. It was way cooler than I just made it sound, trust me. It was like a horror version of Bill Murray’s Groundhog Day (1993). Landon was able to come up with a thriller that also had some mystery and even a bit of comedy. Basically, I really dug the movie and if you haven’t seen it, you should.
Now, as much as I liked the first one, I was a little put off when I heard they were doing a sequel. My first thought, where do you go with it? I mean think about it. Bill Murray learned his lesson and made it out of the rabbit hole. Now what, Murray gets stuck in another do-over day? Or maybe this time it’s the cameraman that is stuck? Why run a good thing into the ground?
Apparently, the powers that be think they’ve got something the fans will enjoy because Happy Death Day 2U comes out February 14, 2019. So far we know that Christopher Landon is back to write and direct the sequel, which is cool. Jessica Rothe, who starred in the first one, is back to reprise her role as Tree Gelbman.
What has me curious is the line they threw into the news packet. “This time, our hero Tree Gelbman discovers that dying over and over was surprisingly easier than the dangers that lie ahead.” Um, so maybe there was some weird downside to the groundhog day and now she has to pay the consequences? I guess we’ll see when it comes out…
Also, here’s the teaser poster they dropped. What you do you think about a sequel? Did you even see or like the first one? Let me know.
