300: Rise of an Empire (2014)

Have you ever done something in life and knew it would come back on you later? In March 2014, we watched as Themistocles’s action would start a chain reaction no one would be able to get out of the way of.

Directing this 102 minute action/drama/fantasy/war is Noam Murro.

Preparing for war in this flick is: Sullivan Stapleton as Themistocles, Eva Green as Artemisia, Lena Headey as Queen Gorgo, Hans Matheson as Aesyklos, Rodrigo Santoro as Xerxes, Andrew Tiernan as Ephialtes, Andrew Pleavin as Daxos.

Xerxes and his Persian army is still on the move and now the Greek general Themistocles stands in the way of Artemisia and her Persian navy. Facing the massive numbers of the Persian army, Themistocles tries to forge an alliance with unlikely allies in hopes to stand against the Persian threat.

So here we go, 300… the sequel! If you’ve seen the first 300 film (in 2006) then you’ve got a pretty good idea of what you’re getting into. Brutal fights, great visuals, glorious battles and a lot of blood. Well, that’s exactly what you’ll get from the sequel also. So you won’t notice a real difference from the first movie to the second, which was a good sign if you ask me. The lack of change means it fits together better and flows from the first film right into this one. It’s only if you look behind the scenes that’s you’ll notice some changes. Like Noam Murro as the directer this go around instead of Zack Snyder. Murro, I think did a great job and was able to capture the same feel as the first film. Doing the cinematography this time was Simon Duggan unlike the first film that had Larry Fong. The screenplay which was written by Zack Snyder and Kurt Johnstad was done without the assistance of Michael B. Gordan this time. Something you would never notice while watching it, but I thought it was pretty cool. Because it showed some skill (in my opinion) of the new players for making everything look so seamless.

Cast did great and I can never get tired of watching Eva Green play an evil role (she rocks!). Hands down from the killer scenes and special effects to the playthrough of the story, you’ll find an awesome movie waiting to been seen that’s worth the money. Also, just to warn the more sensitive audience, this is a pretty bloody flick, that has limbs being taken off by swords and such.
