All Cheerleaders Die (2014)

all-cheerleaders-dieWould you bring down a group of people that wronged you? In May 2014, Maddy had a plan to do just that… then things changed.

Directing this 90 minute comedy/horror/thriller is Lucky McKee and Chris Sivertson.

The cheerful cast is: Caitlin Stasey as Maddy Killian, Sianoa Smit-McPhee as Leena Miller, Brooke Butler as Tracy Bingham, Amanda Grace Cooper as Hanna Popkin, Reanin Johannink as Martha Popkin, Tom Williamson as Terry Stankus, Chris Petrovski as George Shank, Leigh Parker as Manchester “Manny” Mankiewitz and Nicholas S. Morrison as Ben.

Maddy wants to see Terry, the head of the football team, fall from grace. So she joins the cheerleading squad to become one of the “in-crowd” members and put her plan into action. Unfortunately, a tragic accident takes Maddy and a few of her cheerleader friend’s lives. Good news is, their deaths didn’t last that long.

I didn’t know what I was in for when I saw this title. Was it a slasher flick? Who knew, so I figured I’d give it a spin and find out. Now come to find out, it’s a remake of McKee and Sivertson’s film All Cheerleaders Die (2001). Apparently, when they did the 2001 version they were fresh graduates from college and it was a low budget film. So they wanted to make a better go around with it this time and do a remake.

Together, Lucky McKee and Chris Sivertson not only directed but also wrote the screenplay as well. At first, I was kind of curious about what was going to happen. I really started thinking we were heading into the beginnings of a slasher flick. Then the story hit me with a left when I wasn’t looking and went a different way. I have to say, I liked the surprise. The more I watched it, I found out that wasn’t the only surprise… but it was the only one I liked. Apparently that was it’s peaking point because it quickly went down hill from there. Yeah I kept in mind it was a comedy, but you need to keep in mind… it’s not a very funny one.

The playthrough had me curious for a few. Then, once everything took off and you knew what direction the flick was going in, it just didn’t have the strength to keep up a good flow. Yeah the pace stayed even, but the story started getting pretty cheesy and I started to lose interest in it.

Now the cast was ok but nothing star worthy really to talk about.

Surprisingly the special effects were really good, and so was the camera work done by Greg Ephraim.

Summary : Yeah I've seen it, but I can't say I'd recommend this one to other people. However this one does fall more to the teen crowd audience, so it may find a fan base somewhere. Upside (I guess), last time I checked (which was 7/27/2014) you can find this title on Netflix.

It's rated NR (not rated) but has violence, gore and language.
