Movie Review: Jack the Giant Slayer

Could you walk a mile in a giant’s shoes? In March 2013, that question was not answered, but it could have made this movie a lot more interesting if it was.

Directing this 114 minute adventure/fantasy is Bryan Singer.

Nicholas Holt as Jack, Eleanor Tomlinson as Isabelle, Ewan McGregor as Elmont, Stanley Tucci as Roderick, Ian McShane as King Brahmwell and Bill Nighy as the voice of General Fallon make up part of the giant cast.

Jack brings home the beans, and the story takes off (sadly not really). The beans grow into a giant beanstalk that turns old myths into a new adventure. A runaway princess gets swept into the story when she needs
rescuing from the giants. Jack and the kings men mount up and start a rescue. Just one giant problem, someone has ulterior motives that could bring these two worlds crashing together, stopping not only the rescue but any hope for peace in the kingdom.
Visually, the movie was good and the story had potential. The playthrough, on the other hand fell short and cheesy. The story of Jack and the Beanstalk could be a great movie… maybe it’ll catch a reboot and we can forget about this one. Not the best work I’ve seen from some of the great faces (not gonna point fingers… you know who you are) in the cast, which was pretty disappointing. Overall, can’t say this flick was worth the watch, but if you want to watch something with kinda cool looking giants… here ya go.

This film carries a PG 13 for frightening images, violence and brief language.

2 stars for looking cool, but not worth the watch.
