Lone Survivor (2013)

Have you ever made a decision that changed your life? In December 2013, we watched one decision changed the lives of four men forever.

Directing this 121 minute action/biography/drama/thriller/war is Peter Berg.

Repesenting these real life roles are: Mark Wahlberg as Marcus Luttrell, Taylor Kitsch as Michael Murphy, Ben Foster as Matt “Axe” Axelson, Emile Hirsch as Danny Dietz, Ali Suliman as Gulab, Eric Bana as Erik Kristensen and Alexander Ludwig as Shane Patton.

Based on real life events: A four man Navy SEAL Team is given a task, capture or kill Ahmad Shah a Taliban leader. With Operation Red Wings underway in Afghanistan, the team find their spot to recon
the area and confirm the target. Then, everything goes down hill after their location is compromised. Soon, these four men find themselves out numbered, losing ground and doing everything they can to protect each another.

This flick has some seriously realistic bloody scenes. Just to warn the individuals that might not be able to handle strong visual war films. Now, the movie is based on the 2007 book, Lone Survivor written by Marcus Luttrell and Patrick Robinson.

The storyline was intense and the playthrough was pretty hardcore to watch at times. It’s easy to watch a war movie and go hmm… that was ok. Knowing this is a story told by a man that was there, that you’re watching life and death events in a man’s life transpire makes this more than just a war film. Which between the cast, directing and storyline you get more than just a war flick.

The cast did an amazing job, and I actually liked Kitsch for once.

I gotta say, I’m a fan of Peter Berg when it comes to his directing. He’s done some great work with the films Hancock, The Losers and now Lone Survivor. As long as you pretend that the crappy 2012 Battleship film never happened, you’ll be a fan also.

Summary : If you can handle the violence then this one is worth checking out.

It's rated R for language and violence.
