Movie Review: The Cabin in the Woods

Cabin in the middle of nowhere for the weekend, who wouldn’t jump at the chance? In April 2012, after watching this flick… me!

Directing this 95 minute horror/mystery/thriller is Drew Goddard.

The cast of ill-fated souls is: Kristen Connolly as Dana, Chris Hemsworth as Curt, Anna Hutchison as Jules, Fran Kranz as Marty, Jesse Williams as Holden, Richard Jenkins as Sitterson, Bradley Whitford as Hadley, Brian White as Truman, Amy Acker as Lin and Sigourney Weaver as The Director.

Five friends go to a secluded cabin for the weekend. While enjoying their retreat from the world, they stumble across a treasure trove of relics down in the cellar. While rummaging through everything, strangely
each person is drawn to a different object. Will curiosity be their downfall? All the while, little do they know, their every move is being watched.

The storyline had a real interesting take for your average horror movie. The script was cheesy at times, but it was cool to watch the playthrough. I was surprised by some of the faces that showed up in the cast, which made it even better. The special effects where not great by any means. All told, this is a great B grade horror film. Some people want high productions with flash and flair, when sometimes the lower the quality.. the better the film.

It’s rated R for nudity, violence, gore, language and drug use.

4 stars for a great retreat from the norm.
